What is Reiki?
Reiki, also known as the Usui System of Natural Healing (Japanese: Usui Reiki Ryoho), is a holistic and natural method for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is a simple yet powerful technique that can be easily learned by anyone.
Introduced by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century, this traditional Japanese practice of “laying on of hands” has since spread worldwide and is now used by thousands of people.
For beginners, Reiki offers a gentle entry point into the healing arts. For experienced practitioners of other modalities, it serves as a valuable complement to their existing approach.
The Reiki Session
A full Reiki session takes approximately one hour. The client, fully clothed, may lie down or sit comfortably while experiencing the treatment in a safe and peaceful environment.
Using both on- and off-body hand positions, the practitioner administers Reiki throughout the session. While sensations can vary from person to person, feelings of warmth and deep relaxation are the most commonly reported experiences.
Reiki is always beneficial and can be used as a complement to any other type of therapy.
What Does Reiki Do?
Promotes relaxation and reduces stress
Releases toxins and energy blockages, supporting the body’s natural ability to heal
Balances the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of self
Provides a healing touch of encouragement and compassion for yourself and others
Increases awareness of your own health and well-being
Reiki cannot be used for harmful purposes. It is completely safe and works only for the highest good.
Easy to Learn
Another benefit of Reiki is that it is easy to learn. Anyone can quickly acquire the skills needed to perform Reiki on themselves or others.
Reiki is taught in three levels: Reiki I, Reiki II, and Reiki Master. During these experiential workshops, you will receive the appropriate Reiki attunements, enabling you to become a channel for Reiki energy. You will also be provided with a training manual for your level, and at the end of the workshop, you will receive a certificate of completion.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and it is not necessary to believe in anything to learn or use Reiki. An attunement lasts a lifetime—it does not wear off, and no one can ever lose it.
Because Reiki can be transmitted to people, animals, plants, and situations, it provides a valuable tool that benefits not only ourselves but also those around us.
